Blue Christmas: A Service of Consolation

This Sunday, December 17 | 4:00 pm

The holidays are marked by celebrations, yet they are often stressful or sad for those experiencing grief of any kind, especially the death of loved ones in the last year. Join us on Sunday, December 17 at 4:00 p.m. for Blue Christmas: A Service of Consolation.

Let the music of the Chancel Choir, the comforting words of Scripture and poetry, and words of hope from Pastor Julie bring peace to your tired soul. The service concludes with the lighting of candles in memory of people who have died, and/or in acknowledgment of other kinds of grief we carry. Please consider inviting and accompanying someone you know who needs some comfort and hope this year.

Introducing Co-Coordinators of Children and Youth Ministries

First Baptist leadership has been exploring ways to expand our offerings for children and youth in recent months. This has included conversations with parents of children and youth in August followed by the Ministry Architects assessment report with specific recommendations about these ministry areas.

Beginning in January 2024, we will welcome to our staff two part-time interim co-coordinators of children and youth ministries, Julia Bradley and Mia Owens. Julia and Mia will work together to provide an enthusiastic, welcoming space for children and youth who attend First Baptist on Sunday mornings. They will also build relationships with children, youth, and their families outside of Sunday morning settings.

Children, youth, and their families will have opportunities to meet and interact with Julia and Mia in the month of December. We are also pleased that as Julia and Mia begin their work, Carolyn B-Roebuck will remain on staff to provide consistency for young children as well as impart her wisdom and guidance to these new co-coordinators of children and youth ministry.

Both Julia and Mia are DC residents who have participated in the young adult fellowship group on Sunday evenings. They have also participated in parts of the Ministry Architects consultation process. We are confident that you will enjoy getting to know them in the days ahead.
